Overall, we were surprised by the quality of food and it was always a pleasure to have breakfast there every morning.
To give you an idea of what to expect - there’s fresh juices, fruits, cereals, loads of bacon, sausages, eggs cooked in anyway you like, Italian inspired dishes combined with popular local flavours cooked with a slightly different twist -inspired by her international exposure. I have seen vegetable dishes ruined by over-heating at the counter.
But do take note that sometimes, it’s not perfect. You will find a range of Italian inspired dishes interspersed with local Filipino dishes but really almost at gourmet quality. She serves food which are prepared with great attention to quality of ingredient and even its presentation. With Chef Fores early training in New York and her exposure to Italy and the culinary experience there, it is clearly apparent that Italian flavours and seasoning rule in most of her dishes. Firstly, you will be surprised by the small spread but as we discovered, it was not the quantity but rather the quality of ingredients that surprised us. But please allow me to qualify - it’s not a typical restaurant serving an abundant selection of foods piled in rows. Alta is helmed by Filipino Margarita Fores (named 2016 Asia’s Best female chef), serving some of the best breakfast fare in all my trips to Manila thus far. The hotel was excellent but the Alta surprised me and my colleagues with its amazing breakfast spread and that was the only meal we had at the restaurant. However, in my recent trip, I discovered Alta restaurant when I stayed at the Ascott, BGC. My assessment of breakfast at various hotels was either neutral bordering on passable or just touching borderline quality. I have been travelling to Manila for the past year and having stayed in various hotels, I had the fortune to sample the first meal of the day.
